The Fountain Valley Police Department is committed to enhancing public safety and protecting our community. As part of this effort, we have launched an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) program with fixed cameras placed throughout the city.
This program includes fixed cameras strategically placed throughout the city. These cameras serve two primary purposes:
1. Real-Time Alerts: They immediately notify our Department when a vehicle associated with statewide criminal databases is detected, enabling officers to quickly locate and apprehend individuals involved in serious crimes such as vehicle theft, child abduction, or other dangerous criminal activity.
2. Investigative Support: ALPR data can also be used after an incident to assist in investigations, such as identifying vehicles involved in hit-and-run collisions, kidnappings, or other crimes.
The Fountain Valley Police Department values the privacy of all residents. Our ALPR systems only capture license plates and vehicle information—they do not photograph occupants, nor do they use facial recognition technology.
In accordance with Department policy, ALPR data is used exclusively for legitimate law enforcement purposes and will never be utilized for immigration enforcement or any purpose unrelated to enforcing California law.
