The City of Fountain Valley has been taking steps to control the gopher population. As of right now, there are only 2 options to control the gopher problem in the City of Fountain Valley parks. Baiting is the first method, in which a probe is inserted at a 45 degree angle into the gopher tunnel and a set amount of bait is released. The second method is mechanically trapping the gophers. Traps are placed in the entrances of new mounts and covered with dirt so that at the moment in which the animal returns to find their mount close, they will begin digging and trigger the trap. This second method has been the most efficient in the past year. The crew tasked with this issue have been able to trap and remove an average of 20 gophers per week.
