Trash-Pickup

All residential and commercial trash collection is continuing to operate on a regular schedule. Collection may happen earlier or later than usual in some locations and can occur anytime between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please be sure to set out residential containers before 7 a.m. on the regular day.

Republic Services provides a modern, automated waste collection and recycling program for residential customers with trash can service. The program is similar to those already in service throughout other Orange County cities. The program provides residents with three 95-gallon carts with the following color distinctions:

  • Blue cart for recycling
  • Brown cart for trash
  • Green cart for green waste and food waste
     





Each 95-gallon cart holds the rough equivalent of three 32-gallon cans that residents have previously used. Smaller carts are available upon request, and additional green waste and recycling containers are also available for no additional charge. Additional trash containers are available for a one-time delivery fee of $75. Click cart service for more information.

Commercial or Residential Services

All homes and businesses in Fountain Valley must have trash service. The property type helps to determine the type of service. All single-family homes and many condos and townhomes will use individual wheeled carts emptied one time per week aka residential cart service

Multi-family properties with two to four dwelling units may have either residential cart or commercial bin service. To request a change in service type from residential to commercial or vice-versa, please contact (714) 847-3581.

Multi-family properties with 5 or more dwelling units and all other commercial properties must use commercial bin service. Commercial service may include a residential style cart for recycling or organics. Please contact Republic Services at (714) 847-3581 to start, stop or change commercial service.

Carts and bins are property of Republic Services. Please do not take them when you move.

10/4 Program - Large Item Pickup

For larger items, Republic Services provides 4 free collections per year where residents can put out up to 10 large items per collection. They call it the 10/4 Program. This collection system helps residents dispose of large items that don't fit in their normal carts and enables the City to comply with state waste diversion goals requiring a 50% reduction in waste disposed at landfills. Clean Trucks

As an added benefit, the collection vehicles run on clean burning compressed natural gas (CNG), which are much quieter than diesel powered trucks and produce much less pollution. For additional information please call Republic Services at 714-847-3581.

Residential trash collection is scheduled weekly. Click on the map to the right to find out when trash collection is scheduled in your neighborhood. Trash, recycling and green waste carts should be placed along the curb by 7:00 a.m., and stored out of public view by 9:00 p.m. on your scheduled pick up day.



Missed Trash Collection: If your trash, recycling, or yard waste was not emptied on your normal collection day, please contact Republic Services within 24 hours of your collection day (including Saturday morning) at (714) 847-3581 to arrange for a make-up collection. Missed pickups are typically collected the next business day, depending on time of day that Republic Services was notified. Please leave the cart out at the curb so that it can be emptied. 

Please remember to place carts for collection by 6:30 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Each of the three collection trucks can come at any time between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

With the app, you can also report a missed pickup, and receive alerts from Republic Services. Whether you are a resident or a business, Mobile Bill Pay with My Resource is for you!
